The woman, who was seemingly beaten to death, was found lifeless in her unfinished house where she stayed alone.
Luanshya acting District Commissioner Dieu Lupasha identified the deceased as Jane Mwewa, 75, who is suspected to have been hit on the head with an iron bar that was discovered next to her body.
He said the deceased sustained a swollen head with deep cuts which were believed to have caused her death.
Lupasha said it is suspected that the deceased was killed by thieves that robbed a bar which is next to her house.
He said police received a report of burglary in which two Bonanza gambling machines containing money, among other items, were stolen from the bar on the same night of the murder.
Lupasha said the body of the deceased is in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem and that police have since launched an investigation into the matter.
