Stale Mackerel Fish Seized in Chililabombwe

The Chililabombwe Municipal Council have seized over 2,000 boxes of stale mackerel fish worth K349, 950 from Onime Logistics, a transporting company from Namibia.

This follows an inspection on the truck registration number CK40KV/FHY037 by the Chililabombwe Municipal Council health inspectors after one of the fish traders complained that the merchandise had gone bad.

Council Assistant Public Relations manager Chilufya Chungu confirmed the development stating that the merchandise has since been disposed.

“Our inspections revealed that the named truck from Namibia en-route to Kasumbalesa had developed some faults along the way resulting in malfunctioning of its refrigeration unit which resulted in the fish becoming stale and unfit for human consumption,” she stated.

Chungu said the transporter had contravened the food and drugs Act CAP 303 and the public health Act CAP 295 of the Laws of Zambia and will be made answerable.
