NDF Expels Kitwe Mayor

Barely 48 hours after being re-elected as Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) President Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has been expelled from the National Dialogue Forum.

Kang’ombe was summoned to appear before the NDF standing orders committee for his comments criticizing the recommendation to have the election of the mayor by popular vote cancelled.

The youthful mayor has not backed down and reiterated his stance soon after his re-election on Friday.

At the on-going National Dialogue Forum there has been a recommendation that the mayors be elected among councillors and not by a popular vote directly.

NDF, please be reminded that the mayor or council chairperson is above an MP

Cancelling the popular vote will be depriving the electorates of their newly gained access to the mayoral office! #counterproductive!!!

Is it a dialogue or a diabolic, how do you dialogue simultaneously expelling. This is what happens when you do things whose results are known way before.

AM SURE THEY DELIBERATED ON THIS ISSUE WITH PROPONENTS OF EITHER POSITION HAVING DIVERGENT VIEWS. FINALLY THEY REACHED AN AGREED POSITION EITHER BY VOTING OR WHATEVER METHOD THEY WANTED. THE FOOLISHNESS IS TO CONTINUE INSISTING THAT ONLY YOUR POSITION WAS RIGHT, AND DISPARAGE THE FINAL DECISION PUBLICLY.

    KAPONDO has missed it.
Counsellor is not about an MP, neither is the mayor. A council is an organ of state power. A council makes by laws only. On the other hand makes statute. Statute is higher than by law.
I’m not sure wether the forum is still sitting, and one does not want to be found in contempt. But this was a desplainary action derived from the articles quoted.

@Redo, kindly let me know why he was expelled. Was it not bcoz he did not follow laid down procedures? You are right we need to understand the issue before commenting. From the comments it looks like people have not understood the issue.
