This is in a matter in which Nkandu Mwila was jointly charged with Robert Chewe with one count of burglary and theft.
Particulars of the offence are that on March 29, 2019, the duo, whilst acting together with other persons unknown, broke into Cornerstone Bar and stole a laptop valued at K4, 871 and K1, 721 cash, the property of Elizabeth Mwanza.
When the matter came up for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Oswald Chibalo, Mwila pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read before him while Chewe denied the charge.
Senior Resident Magistrate Chibalo convicted Mwila accordingly after he admitted the charge.
In mitigation, Mwila pleaded for leniency and asked the Court to forgive him him as he was a first offender and was remorseful over his actions.
Magistrate Chibalo then sentenced Mwila to five years imprisonment having considered the mitigation.
He further granted Chewe K5,000 bail and set May 17, 2019 as date for commencement of trial.
