Mopani to Close 2 Shafts Earlier Than Planned

While there is still war on the liquidation of Konkola Copper Mines, Mopani has brought itself in the picture by announcing the closure of two shafts earlier than planned.

The mine run by Glencore has announced that the closure of Mindola North Shafts has been brought forward from the original plan due to lack of resources to manage them.

Last week, Mopani Copper Mines announced that it was shutting down the two shafts whose economic life had come to an end.

“As you may be aware, we have has a very challenging start to the year. Overall, Mopani’s performance in terms of output and costs has been poor in the last few months, worsened by unanticipated smelter breakdowns that have led to serious production losses,” Company Supply Chain Manager Sindiso Sichone has indicated.

He said Mopani plans to cease operations at the Mindola North and Central Shafts to focus on their essential capital projects, among them the Synclinorium Concentrator, Mufulira Henderson Shaft and Mindola deep shaft.

“The closure has always been part of the plan as we commissioned the new shafts. However, the action has been brought forward from the original plan because the company has limited resources and can no longer afford to operate these old and inefficient shafts,” Sichone added.

He stated that the closure of the two uneconomic shafts would allow the mining firm to apply funds provided by Glencore towards the completion of expansion projects which presented the future of the Company.

It is a question of using two separate entries to one and same hole. You close the first entrance to avoid being taxed on pretext of not being profitable while you open a new entrance leading to the same hole deceiving the stupid masquerades that you have brought new investment and you are given tax holiday. Ala kwena ignorance bulwele. I have just given you a clue of what is happening at Mopani with full knowledge of unpatriotic Zambians including the so called leaders who are only interested in filling their blotted tummies.

It is problems like these, and our ability to confront them that will make us great again. It is unpatriotic and cowardly to start calling each other names when problems befall your nation.
Haven’t I told you the proverb of the mother Millipade? The little child didn’t know which of the million legs it should lift first in order to move. When the little Millipade asked the mother, the mother said “move child move”. It moved, and moved, and enjoyed every process of it.
    President Lungu should move on.
Let’s start taking over these mines, one by one.
Some of these SO CALLED investors are actually HEGEMONISTS, only interested to take away our worth for nothing.
The New Tax Regime continues, if they protest, we add Capital Gains Tax. Didn’t we pay heavily when we went to their universities? We know how they are over taxed in their countries. Zambians must persevere now in order to have a meaningful future.
