Hellen joins country mate Rachael Nachula who has also signed for the Primera Division B side.
The hitherto Red Arrows striker was part of the team that qualified to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a beauty of a strike in Zambia’s 2-1 home win over Cameroon at Nkoloma Stadium as the Copper Queens made their historic qualification to the Olympics.
Zaragoza CFF confirmed the capture of the dazzling damsel on their website.
“The Zaragoza team continues with the management and planning of the next season 20/21, with the signing of the player Hellen Mubanga, fifth signing, to complete the attacking area of the team,” said the club on its website.
“The Zambian forward (Lusaka, May 23, 1995), who can also play as a second forward, is international and starts with her country of origin, with several recognitions in her career, such as the MVP award in the COSAFA Cup, being Transcendental in the runner-up obtained by Zambia, achieving the historic pass to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
“Among her soccer qualities, it can be highlighted that she is a versatile player, with technique and great vision of the game, also providing goals with ease, helping to make the team’s game more dynamic.”
Fondly christened Hellena by her teammates, Hellen becomes the third Zambian female player to trek to Spain after star forward Barbara Banda and Nachula.
Barbara joined EDF Logrono in 2018 but has since made a big money move to China where she is on the books of Shanghai FC.
Other female Zambian stars playing their trade in Europe are Rachael Kundananji and Misozi Zulu who are based in Kazakhstan with BIIK Kazygurt.
BIIK Kazygurt played in the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League and lost in the quarterfinals to Bayern Munich.
More doors are opening for Zambian women footballers following the good performances of the various national teams.
