UNZA To Hold Virtual Graduation

The University of Zambia has announced that graduation ceremonies for the Graduate School of Business (GSB) and the Institute for Distance Education (IDE) will be conducted virtually.

UNZA registrar Mr Sitali Wamundila stated that all postgraduate students were included to those that will participate in the graduation on Friday, 31st July, 2020.

“This is also a reminder to all graduates, sponsors and the general public that the graduation ceremonies for the Graduate School of Business (GSB) and the Institute for Distance Education (IDE) will proceed to be conducted virtually. Further to this, we wish to inform you that all postgraduate students are now included to those that will participate in the graduation on Friday 31st July, 2020,” Mr Wamundila stated.

“In this vein, all students that have met the criteria for graduation will be conferred with their qualifications on Friday, 31st July 2020. This move will allow these students to have access to their hard-earned qualifications so as to facilitate their continuing career progression. The graduation ceremonies for the rest of the students will be conducted at a later stage after consultations with relevant authorities are exhausted.” he said.

Meanwhile, UNZA is expected to resume face-to-face learning for final year graduating students on Monday, 29th June.

Mr Wamundila stated that the move was in line with government’s implementation of re-opening higher learning institutions in a phased approach based on the preparedness of the institutions as determined by the relevant authorities.

“Following Management’s earlier communication with regard to the re-opening of the final year graduating students at the University of Zambia on 29th June 2020 for face-to-face learning, we wish to inform the University community and the general public that after consultations with relevant authorities, it has been resolved that the University of Zambia (UNZA) be re-opened to all postgraduate students on Monday 29th June 2020 for face-to-face learning, practical sessions and research,” he stated.

Mr Wamundila has further reminded all non-graduating undergraduate students that teaching and learning will continue online until further notice and will follow the same revised sessional dates that have been announced.
